The Strength of the Xerox iGen 3 market
When Louis Armstrong depicted a wonderful world with trees of green and red roses too, we're not sure he was thinking about the Xerox iGen3. However, the future of color looks bright for the latest digital copier from Xerox.
Business writer David Akin, of the Toronto Globe and Mail, sat down with Mulcahy in summer of 2004 to discuss the market for the Xerox iGen3. The details of that interview have been published in Akin's blog, where Xerox CEO Anne Mulcahy talked about the massive potential for sales growth.
In her interview with Akin, Mulcahy mentioned the replacement of offset presses with iGen3 machines. Akin cited analysts who stated that " for print runs of up to about 10,000 copies, the iGen3 matches the quality of Web offset printing." Mulcahy pointed to cost savings presented by using the iGen3 and the potential for variable data printing.
Sales estimates for the iGen product line were $60 million in 2003, $240 million in 2004, and a whopping $520 million in 2005. But all of that pales in compairson to the market share in 2009, which has been estimated at $1.56 billion a year.
